TikTok is a free social media platform that allows you to create, share, edit and search for short music videos. It includes all kinds of musical activities such as dancing, comedy, singing, playing an instrument.

Interface and available options

TikTok Home Screen shows two bar menus. The bottom toolbar has five main buttons for Home Screen, a search tool, record a video “plus” button, comments “inbox” button and “view my profile” button. 

Sidebar tool presents a typical choice of options for a social platform: go to the author’s profile, give the video a heart, leave a comment or share it. There is also a “disc” button to look for the soundtrack of the video or to find videos with the same soundtrack.

TikTok allows a wide choice of photo filters and background screens for videos that can be added after they were shot.

Main features for your videos

TikTok has a user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to use even for beginners, especially if you are already familiar with Instagram. 

One specific feature of this app is that you can add soundtrack audio from a vast library that TikTok offers by default. You can also search for a specific soundtrack directly from the side menu and find all the videos that use it.

TikTok allows you to edit your video, offering a great choice of photo filters, from classical to the bold ones, and other image correcting tools. You can also introduce a text message or put a sticker on the video screen.

Besides, you can use a timer to record the video or use the green screen effect from its library to choose a background for it.

TikTok uses a hashtag search system, so videos usually are tagged with hashtags by their authors, which then appear on a search screen classified accordingly. 

Safety

TikTok’s developer, a China-based company called ByteDance, guarantees its creation security.

Nevertheless, the U.S. has forbidden TikTok on governmental devices as a threat of a security leak. It has also been recently criticized for a weak HTTP connection that makes it more vulnerable to cyberattacks. 

A research by Israelian cybersecurity company showed that TikTok’s security breaches allow hackers to manipulate, delete or take hold of personal information.
